The University Clinic for Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery  at AKH sees itself as a university centre for the diagnosis and therapy and prevention of congenital and acquired diseases of the musculoskeletal system. It is our ultimate goal to provide patients with the best possible medical treatment.

In the Competence Centre for Orthopedics they perform hip, knee, spinal and foot operations. Losing maneuverability and living with musculoskeletal pains in later life is no longer an inevitable fate: The most recent joint prosthesis technology and the latest, minimally invasive implant procedures have made joint operations and the insertion of hip prostheses, knee prostheses, ankle joint prostheses and shoulder prostheses a short and gentle routine procedure.

The attending physicians of the AKH include leading specialists for diseases of the musculoskeletal system and supporting tissue.

Univ.-Prof. Dr. Reinhard Windhager is head of the University Clinic for Orthopaedics and Trauma Surgery at Vienna General Hospital and a nationally and internationally recognised researcher and expert in orthopaedics.

As a specialist in orthopaedics and orthopaedic surgery, he offers his patients an exact diagnostic clarification and treatment of the most diverse complaints of the entire musculoskeletal system.

Prof. Windhager: I offer state-of-the-art endoprosthetics, but orthopaedic-oncological procedures up to complex revision procedures are also possible.” Special focuses of the practice are the hip and knee joints. Thanks to many years of experience, ongoing training and continuous scientific activity, patients benefit from comprehensive care with innovative therapy methods at the highest medical level through their work at the AKH. Techniques are used that are characterized by convincing results in terms of safety, efficacy and benefit.
